Not yet...

Every night I go to bed feeling more and more like - "oh, it's definitely going to be tonight." Last night I even woke up sure that the contractions would start any minute, looking for aches and pains which might be an indication of this premonition. But, clearly, not. Here I sit with the largest belly I could possibly have (a statement which I will likely have to retract tomorrow) continuing to incubate.

40 weeks and 4 days... (yes, I'm counting)

Last night, like every night, I went to bed thinking I might be awoken by my inner child (literally of course). But, as you can tell (no I won't blog from my hospital room the morning after giving birth) there was no arrival last night either.

The child is growing which comes as no surprise to me or anyone else, but given that, it's pretty hard to believe that it's doing the headspins that it seems to be doing. From about 24-39.5 weeks, Stitch has been in there head-down with its feet over to my left side. But at some point between saturday night and sunday, Stitch decided to swing its feet around to my right, a rotation that's occurred a few times since then. I'm pictuing some sort of breakdance routine in there (although Stitch might be embarassed to know that its mom is old enough to remember breakdancing).

...and still counting

Not sure why Stitch has decided to stick with me an extra couple days perhaps life is just easier in there than we both know it will be out here, perhaps it's being slow-roasted and it needs to cook a bit longer, perhaps it overhears my dad (grandpa) and is just waaaaayyyy too embarrassed to come out (quote of the day, although hard to select, "Oh, look at those flamingos. They're pink. I've only seen white ones before").

Regardless, another day, another 2+ ounces added to the outcome (and perhaps more importantly, .2 cm added to the head size).

40 weeks and 2 days, but who's counting?

I'm still with child. Other than being a little disturbed by the looks of the grotesquely huge belly, I'm feeling just fine!

Were you wondering?

For all the "fans" out there, I didn't want you all to get too excited (or overwhelm me with phone calls and emails wondering how it went) - Stitch has NOT arrived. I think Stitch is just taking its sweet time, gradually sliding out, going to show that this child will take after Jim (and not impatient me!).

Why I didn't go into Obstetrics

Well, I think the answer to that title goes without saying as there are an endless number of reasons. But here is one for today.

I had a weekly appointment this morning. I should be a professional patient by now, but clearly I'm not. I know which roomthe nurse will direct me to, to step on the scale on my way by, and to send Jim into the room while I go pee in a cup. But, peeing in a cup is a talent that is still hit and miss for me (quite literally). Today's episode, however, was less of a problemfor me than the poor doctor... After exchanging my lower clothing for a thin paper drape and climbing up on the table (leaving the paper tattered and ripped), I farted! I have little shame in sharing that here - it's a fact of life, we all fart and lifegoes on. But to fart on the table (or should I say INTO the table) shortly before the doctor comes in and has you spread eagle in the stirrups.... that's just unkind.

Still there!

Once again, this entry is intended for all my "fans" who are anxious to know whether Stitch has arrived. Well, NO.

But, I'll say that it is very, very, very close. The cork has popped. For anyone not knowing what the heck I'm talking about, let me refer you to your college biology textbook... well, maybe not... how about a obstetrics textbook. Notice that I did NOT refer you to Google where you will find people who fish the "cork" out of the toilet and take pictures for posterity... no, no, no, no, NO. I do NOT recommend this, you will regret it even if you are studying to be an OB. I saw these pics and am scarred for life. I digress.

Still "with child"

This blog is basically to tell everyone who's checking in only out of curiousity whether I'd delivered Stitch yet or not that - yes - I'm still "with child".

So to fulfill your wishes of baby-birthing gossip, let me direct you to a few sites which document the births of other people you "know" - Hollywood celebrities:

http://people.aol.com/people/ongoing/0,19938,640758,00.html
For instance, Isaac Hayes is the proud father of Nana (uhh, that's a boys name in case that isn't transparent) and Adam Sandler is the proud papa to little baby Sadie.
